The Galapagos Islands are beautiful, but in a unique way.  They are not at all a tropical paradise with sandy beaches and warm water.  They are barren, windswept, volcanic islands.

Much of what grows here is uniquely adapted to make the most of the mist coming from the ocean, and to survive with very little rainfall.  Cactus and other types of desert vegetation rule, and only those animals which can eat this type of growth will make it.
