Que Barbaro! (Barbaric!)

 

Ok... so it's a little weird to have a whole page for one guy, but Jose Merenco, the construction supervisor in Monteverde, is without a doubt one of the best supervisors we've had in all our years of volunteering.  After teaching us the fine art of slinging cement on the walls, he turned us loose with a team of volunteers from the Global Village trip and trusted that we wouldn't completely destroy the house.  Believe it or not, there are a lot of nuances to cement-throwing (see next entry) and we spent much of the week working hard to get it right.  He was always encouraging, patient to a fault, and the type of charismatic leader that you'd work your ass off for (which we certainly did).

 

 

If you do anything before leaving this page, you have to click this sound file to hear Don Jose say "ĦQue Barbaro!," which, translated literally, means "How Barbaric!" but is a Don Jose-ism for "fantastic!" 

 

Getting a bonafide "ĦQue Barbaro!" for work well done would easily charge you up for another hour or two of hard manual labor!
