Habitat - Family and Friends

Before leaving Guatemala, we did some volunteer work in the small lake town of Amatitlan, an impoverished area about 45 minutes outside of Guatemala City.

There were two houses being constructed on this particular site for two sisters and their families.  The family and all of the Habitat staff and volunteers were great!

Guatemala Habitat´s national goal is 25,000 houses by 2005.  They´re at about 16,000 thus far, and with a build rate of 10 days per house, they are well on their way to hitting the goal. Habitat, o-yea!

Hard Labor and Lots of Smiles

We spent a little time mixing cement to help with the final flooring in one house, but primarily worked to help dig out the foundation for the second house.

Talk about a good solid ass kickin'.  Oof!  It was a good first hard, solid week of work... really whipped us into shape!

Digging the proverbial trenches...  well, actually, the footers.
